The Simple Facts
Similar to the Quran itself, the Quran's mathematical structure ranges from simple to complex. The "Simple Facts" refer to observations that can be easily verified without the use of any tools, while the "Complex Facts" necessitate the use of a calculator or computer. The following facts, which do not require any specialized tools for verification, are based solely on the original Arabic text:
- 1. The first verse (1:1), known as "Basmalah," consists of 19 letters.
- English - 1:1: In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
- Arabic - 1:1: بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ
- 2. The Quran consists of 114 suras, which is 19 * 6.
- 3. The total number of verses in the Quran is 6346, or 19 * 334. [6234 numbered verses & 112 un-numbered verses (which are the Basmalahs (87:0 for example)) 6234+112 = 6346] Note that 6+3+4+6 = 19.
- 4. The Basmalah occurs 114 times, despite its conspicuous absence from Surah 9 (it occurs twice in Sura 27) & 114 = 19 * 6.
- 5. From the missing Basmalah of Surah 9 to the extra Basmalah of Surah 27, there are precisely 19 surahs.
- 6. It follows that the total of the surah numbers from 9 to 27 (9+10+11+12+...+26+27) is 342, or 19 * 18.
- 7. This total (342) also equals the number of words between the two Basmalahs of Surah 27, and 342 = 19 * 18.
- 8. The famous first revelation (96:1-5) consists of 19 words.
- English - 96:1-5: Read, in the name of your Lord, who created.* He created man from an embryo. Read, and your Lord, Most Exalted. Teaches by means of the pen. He teaches man what he never knew.
- Arabic - 96:1-5: اقرَأ بِاسمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذى خَلَقَ خَلَقَ الإِنسٰنَ مِن عَلَقٍ اقرَأ وَرَبُّكَ الأَكرَمُ الَّذى عَلَّمَ بِالقَلَمِ عَلَّمَ الإِنسٰنَ ما لَم يَعلَم
- 9. This 19-worded first revelation consists of 76 letters 19 * 4
- 10. Surah 96, first in the chronological sequence, consists of 19 verses.
- 11. This first chronological surah is placed atop the last 19 surahs.
- 12. Sura 96 consists of 304 Arabic letters, and 304 equals 19 * 16.
- 13. The last revelation (Surah 110) consists of 19 words.
- 14. The first verse of the last revelation (110:1) consists of 19 letters.
- English - 110:1: When triumph comes from God, and victory.
- Arabic - 110:1: إِذا جاءَ نَصرُ اللَّهِ وَالفَتحُ
- 15. 14 different Arabic letters, form 14 different sets of "Quranic Initials" (such as A.L.M. of 2:1), and prefix 29 suras. These numbers add up to 14+14+29 = 57 = 19 * 3.
- 16. The total of the 29 surah numbers where the Quranic Initials occur is 2+3+7+...+50+68 = 822, and 822+14 (14 sets of initials) equals 836, or 19 * 44.
- 17. Between the first initialed surah (Surah 2) and the last initialed surah (Surah 68) there are 38 un-initialed surahs, 19 * 2.
- 18.Between the first and last initialed sura there are 19 sets of alternating "initialed" and "un-initialed" suras.
- 19. The Quran mentions 30 different numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 19, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 99, 100, 200, 300, 1000, 2000, 3000, 5000, 50, 000, & 100, 000. The sum of these numbers is 162146, which equals 19 * 8534.
And this is only a small summary of the basic facts, easy for the reader's eyes.
The Quran is characterized by a unique phenomenon never found in any other book; 29 surahs are prefixed with 14 different sets of "Quranic Initials," consisting of one to five letters per set. Fourteen letters, half the Arabic alphabet, participate in these initials. The significance of the Quranic initials remained a divinely guarded secret for 14 centuries.

The Quran, in verses 10:20 and 25:4-6, makes clear that the miraculous nature of its message was intended to remain concealed for a specific period of time. This secret was divinely ordained to remain hidden until the appropriate moment in history when its true significance could be fully appreciated.
- English - 10:20: They say, "How come no miracle came down to him from his Lord?" Say, "The future belongs to God; so wait, and I am waiting along with you."
- Arabic - 10:20: وَيَقولونَ لَولا أُنزِلَ عَلَيهِ ءايَةٌ مِن رَبِّهِ فَقُل إِنَّمَا الغَيبُ لِلَّهِ فَانتَظِروا إِنّى مَعَكُم مِنَ المُنتَظِرينَ
- English - 25:4-6: Those who disbelieved said, "This is a fabrication that he produced, with the help of some other people." They have uttered a blasphemy and a falsehood. They also said, "Tales from the past that he wrote down; they were dictated to him day and night."* Say, "This was revealed by the One who knows the Secret* in the heavens and the earth. He is Forgiving, Most Merciful."
